Breast CancerMetastatic breast cancer (mBC), also known as stage IV breast cancer, occurs when cancer cells have spread from the breast to other areas of the body, such as the lymph nodes, liver, lungs, or bones. It is the most advanced stage of the disease, for which there currently is no cure. mBC can affect women of all ages and races, and men can be diagnosed too. It’s estimated that more than 168,000 women are currently living with mBC in the United States. Breast cancer, regardless of stage, is not a single disease with uniform characteristics.
